Chadol:
Radiant Floor Cooling System

[May 2025 - Jan 2026]

Developed ChaDol, a sustainable radiant floor cooling system inspired by Korea’s traditional ondol, achieving a 6–7°C surface temperature reduction and earning a Gold Award (Top 5%) at KSEF.

_Presentation

ChaDol is a radiant floor cooling system inspired by Korea’s traditional ondol, circulating chilled water at approximately 20°C as a sustainable alternative to conventional air conditioning. The prototype achieved a 6–7°C temperature reduction and maintained stable cooling for six days, while aluminum tape improved cooling performance by an additional 9–10%. The project demonstrates the potential for a water-efficient, energy-saving, and scalable cooling system that could help reduce electricity demand and CO₂ emissions.

_Research Paper

ChaDol is a chilled-water radiant floor cooling system inspired by Korea’s traditional ondol, designed as a sustainable alternative to conventional air conditioning. The prototype circulates approximately 20°C water through PVC tubing, reducing floor surface temperatures by 6–7°C and maintaining stable cooling for six days. Aluminum tape further improved heat distribution and lowered surface temperatures by 9–10%, demonstrating the system’s potential as an energy- and water-efficient cooling solution.

_Research Note

Documented the ChaDol prototype’s development and thermal performance through FLIR imaging, testing aluminum tape and insulation covers to improve heat distribution and cooling retention.
